In 2015, I cofounded Tetra, a design and retail platform focusing on a specific and timely niche: accessories for plant medicine rituals. Together with my cofounders, both design curators, we commissioned dozens of emerging and independent designers to create objects for the store in the spirit of modernist and postmodern smoking accessories by such design icons as Enzo Mari and Ettorre Sottsass. We developed a visual language—inspired by surrealism and the compositions of Barbara Kasten, among other artists—that reverberated through both the botanical and design worlds for years to come, and spawned a consultancy for other botanical startups.
